Blomfield, Charles James 1862 - 1932

Charles James Blomfield was born in Richmond, Surrey, England on 4 February 1862. He trained as an architect under his father, Arthur William Blomfield (1829-1899) and attended the Royal Academy Schools in London.  

He commenced practice as an architect in London in 1886. From 1890 he was in partnership with his father, and later with his brother, Arthur Conran Blomfield (1863-1935).  He was architect to Salisbury Cathedral, Chester Cathedral, St. Cross Hospital in Winchester, St. Mary Redcliffe in Bristol, and the Dean and Chapter of Southwark Cathedral [until 1905 the Priory Church of St. Mary Overie]. He was also surveyor to the Eyre Estate in St. John's Wood, London.  He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1891.  

He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London from 1895 to 1918.

His address was given as 6 Montagu Place, Baker Street, London in 1895 and 1914; 125 Park Road, London in 1917 and 1918; 13 Ashbum Gardens, London in 1919 and 1928; and Farthings, Great Horkesley, near Colchester, Essex in 1932  His death was registered in Colchester, Essex on 1 December 1932.
