George Boughton was born in Camberwell, Surrey [now London], England on 5 October 1866. By 1901 he was practising as an architect in Ryde, Isle of Wight, Hampshire . His address was given as 90 Monkton Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, Hampshire in 1901. By 1908 he was in partnership with John Isaac Barton as John I. Barton & George Boughton in Ryde. In 1908 they submitted an entry in a competition to design the Middle School for Boys and Girls in Tiverton, Devon. Their designers are illustrated in British Competitions in Architecture vol. 2, no. 20, February 1909 (pp.256-257).
By 1911 Boughton had moved to Nunhead in London. His address was given as 60 Surrey Road, Nunhead. In 1939 he was living in Longdown Lane, Epsom, Surrey and still apparently practising as an architect
