Braddell, Thomas Arthur Darcy 1884 - 1970

Thomas Arthur Darcy Braddell [commonly known as Darcy Braddell] was born in Singapore in 1884 and was articled to Sir Ernest George (1839-1922.) in London. He also attended the Architectural Association Schools in London, He commenced independent practice in London in 1908 and was in partnership with Humphry Deane (1883-1955) as Braddell & Deane [also known as Deane & Braddell] from c.1912.  By the late 1930s a third partner had joined the practice and the firm had been renamed Braddell, Deane & Bird.

Braddell was admitted an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1920, and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1922. He joined the Art Workers Guild in 1922. He was the author of How to Look at Buildings published in 1932.

Braddell was the husband of the designer and decorative artist, Dorothy Adelaide Braddell, nee Busse, (1889-1981).

His address was given as 5 Holland Park Avenue, London in 1905; 13 Old Quebec Street, Marble Arch, London 1914 and 1926; and Victor House, Portman Square, London in 1930 and 1939. He died in London on 20 February 1970.
