Henry Edward Clifford

Henry Edward Clifford [also known as Harry Clifford and as H.E. Clifford] was born in North Naparama, Trinidad on 12 September 1852. He subsequently moved to the UK and trained as an architect with with John Burnet (1814-1901) from 1867 to 1872. He also attended Glasgow School of Art.  

Clifford went into practice as an independent architect in 1878. He was in partnership with William Landless (1847-?) as Landless & Clifford in Glasgow from 1885 to 1887, and with Thomas Melville Lunan (1878-1945) in Glasgow as Cifford & Lunan from 1909 to 1923 when he retired from practice and moved to England.

Photographs of the entrance hall, dining room, library, drawing room and bedroom of a house designed by Clifford are illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1906 (pp.1, 14, 22, 25, 48), and a fireplace designed by him is illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1909 (p.2).  

Clifford was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1906.  He lived in Watford in Hertfordshire, England (1896), Glasgow (1906, 1914) and Reigate in Surrey, England (1926). He died in Reigate on 15 October 1932
