Andrew Rennie Crawford was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 10 April 1874 and was articled to David Thomson (183-1910) iand with Thomson & Menzies in Glasgow from 1889 to c.1893. He then work as an assistant to Thomson & Menzies until 1896. He also attended Glasgow School of Art and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College. He commenced independent practice as an architect in Glasgow in 1896 and in c.1903, with his brother-in-law, David Veitch (1875-?), formed the architectural partnership Crawford & Veitch [also known as Andrew Rennie Crawford & Veitch]. In 1904 they submitted an entry in a competition to design the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. Their designs are illustrated in British Competitions in Architecture vol. 1, no. 5, September 1905 (pp. 38-39). The partnership was probably dissolved in 1910 as Veitch emigrated to Canada that year.
Crawford was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911. About this time he was appointed chief valuer in Glasgow City Assessor's Department, a position he held for seventeen years. He died in Glasgow on 28 July 1933
