Reginald Norman Dixon was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England on 8 April 1913 and was the son of the architect Reginald Arthur Dixon (1885-1976). It is not known where or with whom he trained as an architect. It may have been under his father. He qualified in the late 1930s and in 1938 was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA). In the 1940s he joined his father in partnership as Reginald Dixon & Dixon. The practice had an office at Great Western Buildings, 6 Livery Street, Birmingham.
R.N. Dixon was employed as an architect at the North West office of the General Post Office between 1956 and 1978. He designed several telephone exchange buildings, including Whitehaven, Rusholme, Kendal, Lancaster and Warrington.
R. N. Dixon's address was given as 23 Hamilton Road, Wallesey, Cheshire in 1939. He died on 2 September 1991. His address at the time of his death was 5 Lyndale Court, Bold Street, Fleetwood, Lancashire
