Arthur James Driver was was born in Battersea, Surrey [now London], England in 1871 and was articled to John Sim (1854?-1919) in Montrose, Scotland from 1889 to 1893. He also attended Edinburgh School of Applied Art. After completing his articles he worked as an assistant to Thomas Purvis Marwick (1854-1927) in Edinburgh from 1893 to 1899. He then moved to London where he was employed as an assistant to William Alfred Pite (1860-1949) in 1900; and to Arthur Conran Blomfield (1863-1935) from 1901. From c.1930 he was in in partnership with Blomfield as Blomfield & Driver in London.
Driver was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1920.
His address was given as 7 Trafalgar Square, Chelsea, London in 1911 and 1914; Surveyor’s Office, Grocers’ Hall, Princes Street, London in 1923; and Grocers' Hall, Prices Street, London in 1930. He died in Elie, Fife, Scotland on 5 September 1940
