Marwick, Thomas Purves 1854 - 1927

Thomas Purves Marwick was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on 25 March 1854 and was articled to John Dick Peddie (1824-1891) and Charles George Hood Kinnear (1830-1894) of Peddie & Kinnear in Edinburgh from c.1870 to c.1875. He qualified as an architect in 1882 and was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1883.

By 1879 he had commenced practice as an architect in Edinburgh and from c.1917 was in partnership with his son, Thomas Craigie Marwick (1878-1965) as Thomas P. Marwick & Son.

Thomas Purves Marwick died in Edinburgh on 26 June 1927. Following his death his son continued to run the practice with the title unchanged. It eventually closed in the early 1940s.

Prior to the partnership with his son, T. P. Marwick designed numerous tenement buildings in Edinburgh, several branches of the National Bank of Scotland, and a number of shops for the St Cuthbert's Wholesale Co-operative Association.
