George, William Henry 1854 - 1934

William Henry George was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England on 11 March 1854 the son of Thomas George (1823-1896), a builder and timber merchant. He was articled to his father from 1871 to 1876 and worked as his assistant until 1887.  They then went into partnership as T. George & Son.

Following the death of his father in 1896, W. H. George retained the original name of the business which he ran for several years. T. George & Son submitted an entry in a competition to design the Middle School for Boys and Girls in Tiverton, Devon.  Their designs are illustrated in British Competitions in Architecture vol. 2, no. 20, February 1909 (pp. 261).  The address of the firm was given as 7 Warrington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire in 1905 and 1908.

W. H. George was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1910.  He died in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire on 25 January 1934
