Arthur Hill

Arthur Hill was born in Cork, Ireland on 8 June 1846 and was the son of  Henry Hill (1806?-1887), an architect.  He trained as an architect in the office of Thomas Henry Wyatt (1807-1880). in 1866-67.  He also studied at Queen's College, Cork (from where he graduated in engineering in 1869); University College London; the Royal Academy Schools in London; and at the Science and Art Schools in Kensington, London.  He was awarded the Donaldson Silver Medal by the University College, London and the Royal Academy Silver Medal in 1871. He practised with his father, and in partnership with his son, Henry Houghton Hill (1882-1951) after 1909. He also lectured on Architecture at University College, Cork.

Hill was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1868 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1887. His address was given as 24 Keppel Street, London in 1868; 22 Georges Street, Cork, Ireland in 1887 and 1914; and Redgarth, Douglas Road, Cork in 1914 and 1921. He died in Cork on 24 February 1921.
