Robert Marchant was born in in Dartford, Kent, England on 8 December 1870. From 1889 to 1893 he was articled to Sir Arthur William Blomfield (1829-1899). He then worked as an assistant to Edwin Landseer Lutyens (1869-1944). He qualified in 1896 and later that year was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA).
His address was given as 6 Gray's Inn Square, London in 1896; Cedar Lawn, Sutton-at-Hone, Kent in 1898; 28 Theobald's Road, London in 1907; 2 Bedford Square, London in 1914 and 1926; Northcot, Suttoh-at-Hone, Kent in 1930 and 1935; and 1 Priory Place Dartford, Kent and 84 Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Square, London in 1939. He died at 28-31 Crook Log, Bexley Heath, Kent on 12 October 1945. His address at the time of his death was 4 Priory Place Dartford, Kent.
