Ower, Leslie 1851 - 1916

Leslie Ower was born in Dundee, Forfartshire, Scotland in 1851 and was articled to his father, Charles Ower, (1813-1876) in Dundee from 1866 to 1870. He then worked as an assistant to James F. Blair (1831-1876) from 1872 to 1874; in Edinburgh and, briefly to his father in 1874.  In May that year, he formed a partnership, C. & L. Ower, with his elder brother, Charles Ower, Junior (1849-1921). The partnership was dissolved in 1898. Leslie Ower then worked alone until 1908 when he merged his practice with Blackadder & Allan. Ower was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1890.   He was President of the Dundee Institute of Architects.  He died at his home, Belfield, Rosemount, Blairgowrie, Scotland on 1 April 1916
