Paget, Alfred Henry 1848 - 1909

Alfred Henry Paget

Alfred Henry Paget was born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England on 16 February 1848. He was articled to Henry Astley Darbyshire  (1839-1908) in London in 1866 and remained with him as an assistant.  He also studied at University College, London and at the Royal Academy Schools in London. He worked as an assistant to James Bird in Leicester in 1871 and to Joseph Goddard (1840-1900) in Leicester in 1873. From 1874 he was in partnership with Goddard as Goddard & Paget which in 1889 became Goddard Paget & Goddard when Joseph Goddard's son Henry Langton Goddard (1866-1944) joined the firm.  Walter Albert Catlow (1862-1918) was admitted a partner in the firm in 1895 and the title of the practice changed to Goddard, Paget & Catlow.

Paget was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1870 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1892. He was President of the Leicester & Leicestershire Society of Architects from 1892 to 1894. He died in Leicester, Leicestershire on 14 March 1909
