Andrew Robertson was born in Scotland in 1868. He was articled to Thomas Dykes (1853-1930) in Glasgow from 1882 to 1887 and remained with him as his draughtsman until 1888. He then worked as an assistant to John Grahame Peat (1828?-1897) and Robert Duncan (c.1840-1928) of Graham Peat & Duncan in Glasgow in 1888-89; and as an assistant and draughtsman to William Clarke (1809-1889), George Bell (1814-1887) and Robert Alexander Bryden (1841-1906) of Clarke & Bell and R A Bryden in Glasgow from 1889 to 1896. He qualified as an architect in 1893.
Robertson was in partnership with Thomas Dykes as T. Dykes & Robertson in Glasgow from c.1898 to c.1905 and with Robert Alexander Bryden from 1906 to c.1930 as Bryden & Robertson, and with Bryden and Joseph Boyd (1873-1946) as Bryden, Robertson & Boyd in Glasgow from c.1930 to c.1932.
Robertson was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1893 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1923. He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Architects in Scotland. His address was given as 278 Vincent Street, Glasgow in 1930. Robertson lived for most of his life in Glasgow and died in Greenock, Scotland on 11 August 1932
