Stallybrass, Basil Thorold 1879 - 1922

Basil Thorold Stallybrass was born in Wallasey, Cheshire, England on 8 August 1879 and studied at the University College, Liverpool's School of Architecture from 1898 to 1900.

In 1899 he was articled to Detmar Blow (1867-1939) and then worked intermittently as his assistant for a number of years, during which time he also trained as a stonemason from 1900 to 1902 and spent a year studying in France and Italy. He assisted Blow on several off his commissions, including the restoration of Clare Church in Suffolk and Little Ridge, near Fonthill Gifford, Wiltshire; alterations to Babraham Hall, near Cambridge; and the repair of Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

Stallybrass commenced independent practice as an architect in 1909 and in 1911 was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA).  He was briefly in partnership with Edmund Harold Sedding (1863-1921).

His address was given as 28 Church Row, Hampstead, London in 1911; 21, Mount Road, New Brighton, Liverpool in 1911 and 1914; 11 Queen Anne Terrace. Plymouth, Devon in 1915; and 12 Queen Anne Terrace, Plymouth in 1920. He died in Plymouth, Devon on 29 January 1922
