Darrall Godfrey Garside was born in Pontefract, Yorkshire, England on 5 February 1893 and was the son of the architect Samson Howard Garside (1861-1948) with whom he may have received his training in the profession. By the early 1920s he had become a partner in Garside & Pennington the practice established by his father and George Farquhar Pennington (1872-1961) in Pontefract.
The London Gazette 1 April 1927 announced that the partnership had been dissolved on 30 March 1927 as Darrell Godfrey Garside had retired from the firm. He died in Hemsworth, Yorkshire in 1933
