Ross Eric

Eric Louis Genge Ross [commonly known Eric Ross] was born in Portland, Dorset on 10 February 1908. He trained as an architect in the Department of Building at Southampton University and in the Department of Architecture at Southampton School of Art. He was also an articled pupil.  He was subsequently in private practice in Southampton.  In the late 1930s he was in partnership with Eric Brown as Brown & Ross. The partnership was dissolved in 1939.  In 1941 Ross was appointed Chief Architect to Bristol Aircraft Company

Ross was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1939, and, by the early 1950s, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA).  His address was given as 24 Carlton Crescent, Southampton, Hampshire and 17 Grosvenor Road, Southport, Lancashire in 1939; and 11 Cranleigh Gardens, Stoke Bishop, Bristol in 1975.  He died in Stoke Bishop, Bristol on 6 April 1975

Aircraft Assembly Buildings in Filton, Bristol designed by Eric Ross in collaboration with David William Durieu Aberdeen and Philip Nevill Taylor for the Bristol Aeroplane Company in 1947-49; Bristol Aircraft Co. aero engine factory in Accrington, Lancashire; a wartime underground factory in Corsham, Wiltshire; and a drawing office building in Filton, Bristol.
