Poulter, Briant Alfred 1881 - 1972

Briant Alfred Poulter [also known as Briant Poulter] was born in Frimley, Surrey, England on 24 February 1881. He studied at Fulham School of Art from 1894 to 1898, and at Reading University from 1899-1904, during which time he was also articled to William Ravenscroft (1848-1943) in 1899 to 1903.  He then worked as an assistant to Cyril B. Tubbs and Arthur Alfred Messer (1863-1934) of Tubbs & Messer in 1903, and to Edward Prioleau Warren (1856-1937) in 1904-05.

From 1905 he was in partnership with his brother, Harry Reginald Poulter (1879-c.1966) as H.R. & B.A. Poulter in Camberley, Surrey, and later with Percy Richard Morley Horder (1870-1944) as Morley Horder & Poulter from 1919 to 1925.  

The H.R. & B.A. Poulter partnership designed a number of private residences in the Camberley area. They also designed the Camberley Heath golf clubhouse; St Andrews Church in Frimley; and the Territorial Drill Hall in Aldershot.

B.A. Poulter was elected a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (LRIBA) in 1911 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1916.  In addition to his work as a painter, B.A. Poulter was also a watercolour painter. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh between 1905 and 1936. He died in Surrey in 1972.
